    Monkey Do’? Learning the Scientific

    of Successful People”

Financially, these are becoming desperate times for many people.
Foreclosures, bank failures, rising oil prices, corporations tanking-- it’s no wonder
personal development and business success are becoming such hot topics these days!

Success may seem hard to reach these days, but you can achieve it if you know how. I
learned a long time ago the way to do something right is by FOLLOWING A GOOD
EXAMPLE. When you see someone like Oprah dazzling her television audiences with her
Angel Network and Book Club, the natural instinct is to want to imitate what she has done.
You can't help it—it’s human nature.

Scientists have discovered that there is a certain chemical reaction in our brains that
makes us automatically relate to other people and imitate what we see them doing. It’s
how babies learn, and it's even how genre movies make you feel scared, happy, romantic
or sad - have you ever noticed that it’s not the bad guy that really scares you, but the look
of terror on the victims’ faces? That's the fancy explanation for "monkey see monkey do."
In these hard times of  economic recession, the trick is, picking good examples to follow!

Throughout history and even in modern times, there are dozens, if not hundreds, of great
examples of successful people who have lived or are living fabulous lives. There have
always been successful people in economic hard times as well as in good times. By
studying the biographies of great people and taking lessons about what to do right, we
make success accessible to the rest of us! From the biographies of great people, we see
living demonstrations of the scientific principles of success. One of these principles is
"The mind is the energizing force of all action." Most of us live out our lives not realizing or
using the vast storehouse of power that is in our minds. But if we follow the example of
successful people, we can begin to understand the energy that could be ours if we only
tap into it.

In the biography of Louisa May Alcott, the author of Little Women, we learn that when she
was very young, she lived in very poor circumstances. When she was just fifteen though,
she had an idea of what she wanted out of life. She said, "I’m going to be rich, and
famous, and happy before I die." With this idea in her mind, she was able to transcend her
philosopher father's ineptitude at business and agriculture, an upbringing in extreme
poverty, and having to share her home with boarders to help pay the rent. For most
people, these things would be a serious distraction, but not for Louisa. With her mind
firmly set on her goal, she began acting on her dream. She wrote stories, got them
published, and got paid for them. Before long she was taking care of her parents, siblings,
and extended family! Use this principle in your own life and watch it go to work! It’s the
science of success by having determination: once you set your mind to your goal, its
energy translates into action in the world through your work. Although Louisa May Alcott
lived in the mid-1800’s, she is a great role model for us today. Be determined to
overcome your setbacks, and before long, you will.

From stories like this, we can learn the scientific principles of success and apply them in
our own lives. We can learn from others who have been there before us how to cope with
the problems we face in our own lives. Why reinvent the wheel? Examples of success are
all around you!
